A wonderful tourist destination in South America, Argentina offers fly fishermen the opportunity to chase golden dorado on the jungle rivers in the north and hearty, wild trout on the cold rivers and lakes of the scenic Patagonia Region in the south at the feet of the Andes. The official language of Argentina is Spanish, but you may encounter many dialects as you travel through the many, diverse regions which include influences from Italian, Portuguese and German languages. Argentina is famous for its grilled meats, or asadas as they are called, and the many exceptional red and white wines the northern region produces. A very warm and friendly culture, do not be surprised if you are invited to share a meal with the family of one of nation's many welcoming hosts. Very social and outgoing, the people of Argentina are highly approachable and outgoing. Strong family ties hold generations of families together, and most are strongly catholic. Many of them also love to fish. It is not uncommon to see one or two along the shores of the many rivers and lakes retrieving spinning lures by winding line around an old, tin soup-can. For the visiting angler, Argentina is an outstanding fly fishing destination, and should be at the top of any angler’s bucket list.
